Just Because You Can Doesn’t Mean You Should

Series: Living sacrifice: part three

About this message

Jeff Boyer – June 21, 2026

Romans 14 confronts the pride, opinions, and petty divisions that can poison the church.  Paul reminds us that living sacrifices don’t weaponize preferences, flaunt freedoms, or sit in judgment over other believers.

In view of God’s mercy, we are called to lay down our “rights” for the spiritual good of others.  Mature faith isn’t about winning arguments, it’s about building people up.

Romans 14:13-23 reminds us that spiritual maturity is not just about what I’m free to do, but how my choices affect others.

Paul challenges the believer to stop flaunting freedoms that could damage another person’s conscience or spiritual walk.  Just because something is permissible doesn’t always mean it is profitable, loving, or wise.
